Jeremy helps out again

Jeremy Stark from no57s.com came by and installed the woofers in the NS-10s. He also installed a speaker select switch so we can use up to 4 near field monitors. He has been doing most of the tech work for us and has been a great help. He has graciously put up with the recycled cable that I have stored up over the last 10 years. We have placed many orders from redco, mouser, and made a few trips to "you blew it".... He has also done some recording and mixing here at The Bridge Sound and Stage with Math.

New Mics Sound RIght

So Its 12:11 AM on Monday Still recording. I have a student to help out in studio D at 10AM and a meeting at 11, interview at 12:30, class at 12:30 and then again at 4. Home by 8 for dinner and try to keep touch base with the day's activities back at the bridge.

I am tracking a rehearsal for a band that is playing Church in a few days. I used the new Earth Works QTC40 (were the QTC1) match pair! Sounds amazing! Also my new Karma tom mics work quite good. The omni make the proximity effect no issue so I can get close enough to make it happen.

I also cut a deal for a Rosetta 800!!!! yes new converters are a nice thing. Can't wait to hear them!
So anyway that is the story. The bad has stopped playing. Oh and thanks to Steve and Tao for all your help tonight.

New Work Updates from The Bridge


Well the Producer's desk has finally been completed, and set in place, and it is sure looking good. Thanks Ben for doing such great job!

In other news, work has begun on our diffuser, which we are looking very forward to hanging. Thanks go out to Diggits for his awesome job designing it.

What A Guy/ What A Class

Thanks to some HTML wizardry, i have solved the photo overlapping issues on the blog. The same issues that i single handedly created in the first place. In the future, anybody who wants to make a post within the blog should follow the template of a previously posted entry, i.e. copy and paste the source view of an older blog entry into your new entry, then go to the wysiwyg view, (where the copied and pasted content of the older template blog should appear) and then delete and reenter text/pictures in the appropriate places. This may seem redundant, which it is, so if you can make entries without all these steps by all means do so. This method is just a surefire way to avoid any formatting issues.

Owen taught a fairly good sized class here at The Bridge today, and it went well. Having a spacious studio packed with good equipment is certainly a better alternative to a cramped classroom with a couple mac's in it. The students got to set up and record live drums & also experiment with some different mic techniques, such as isolating the bass drum mic with some well placed freestanding gobos.

Ben also finished assembly on the first of 2 diffusor panels, and Janos and Owen seem excited about it. Mounting it on the wall before installing the bass traps underneath it should be interesting but he knows what hes doing.

Ben Phillippo came in to record several selections he composed for his film. Allan Espinosa and others played in this, out first session on the stage at The Bridge. The live room sounds so amazing. The Cascade Ribbon microphones set 20 feet back from the quartet gave a truly remarkable sound.

Live Stage to Record your Band

So as you can see, the live space is a beautifully large. We have room in here for a marching band! That fort of gobos / sound baffles was made from Ready Acoustics frames. They worked quite well for isolating a guitar amp from the drum set you can see on the stage. The sound of the room mic placed at the camera’s perspective sounds more like delay. Adding that mic to the mix can not even be compared to reverb effects.

Power

The Otari Status

It takes a lot of cable to move the PSU into the mech. room. Terry was kind to get this job started for us. We are moving all the amps and PSU for the Otari Status out of the control room. We hope this will let us use a bit less AC in the studio.
